on the law of survival and social norms.

THE law of nature dictates that only the fittest will survive. Thus every living being's objective is the preservation of one's self. Some species learned that in order to increase their chances of survival, they must stick together and cooperate. Hence, plants tend to grow in colonies and animals to live in packs and herds.

Even human beings are subject to the laws of nature and thus, tried to live in groups or communities (though in a more complex structure) to protect themselves from other animals. They invented fire, built weapons, fences and houses to ward of predators. What they lack in strength, they made up in intelligence. Nevertheless, a man's enemy is not only other animals but other men as well. There is always the risk of danger from one's neighbor and so, men came up with the concept of social contract.

In order to maintain peace and cooperation within the community, rules and norms were imposed. Concepts such as love, religion, honor, and proper manner and etiquette were introduced. Anybody who fails to act within the rules and norms are treated as deviants, freaks and at times, criminals. By ensuring that these social norms are observed, the community minimizes potential dangers from one's neighbor. But even though these are man-made ideas, there is nothing wrong with embracing them. They are invented for a purpose, and that purpose is survival.
