on love

LOVE is said to be irrational. Yes, I agree. This irrationality stems from the fact that a person is willing to accept another person despite his flaws and imperfection.

There are some that claims that love is composed of three stages. The first stage is the mirage phase. All that one sees are the good traits of the other person. It is during this time that production of hormones is at its peak, inactivating that part of the brain that is responsible for critical judgment. Over time, hormone production declines, critical judgment is reactivated. One then gets to see and realize that the other person is not as perfect as he used to think. All the flaws and misgivings start to be apparent. This is now the second stage of love -disillusionment. True love emerges at that point when one decides to accept the other person amidst his imperfections. Not everyone do so. Not all reaches this third stage of love. It is in acceptance that the irrationality of human beings to choose a person given that there may be others out there who could have been better options stems from.
